Game Day !!!!!

Pats fans at Gillette should treat tomorrow as Brady’s last home game. They should look at the Titans and say “Not today”.

Every season is unique

They had to beat the Fins at Gillette and they couldn’t do it. The Titans are better than the Fins. All signs point to the Titans unfortunately.

If they win, great – I’m just prepared for the fallout after a loss, so anyone who comes out here blasting Brady or BB after the game for unmet expectations, just be ready for me to blast back with “get a life” responses

I’m actually torn about wanting the Pats to win tomorrow. If they do, they have to go to KC to play the Chiefs. I give them no more than a 25% chance to beat them. Last year was a slog, and they were healthier and better. Then…if they DO win, they have to go to Baltimore a week later. No more than a 10% chance there. So say they beat the odds AGAIN. By that time, Brady’s elbow will be hanging by a thread, and everyone else will be half dead. They will crawl into the SB on all fours,… Read more »

Best player on a defense that won 3 super bowls (not in 2001 but in 2003-2004, and overall during that iteration of the Pats). Very good sack total for his position, enough All-Pro/Pro Bowl nods. And he defined the 5-technique role in the 2000s. He absolutely deserves it imo.

I think Faneca and Hutchinson have to get in because of how many accolades they received. Even if Boselli was a better player than either, the format of Pro Bowl voting really rewards the guards because once you’re in the fans vote for you every year. Then Seymour and Polamalu. Though I do agree with the people farther down that Polamalu was a tad overrated, and never the caliber of player Ed Reed was. Still great. I don’t know who I’d choose for the last spot. Personally- I feel very nonchalant about this season- guess I have felt that TB should have retired after the SB- watching him struggling with this elbow problem has not been good- and I believe it’s much worse than anyone is letting on- most likely some ligament damage.

at the end of the day we’re all here for the same reason (or should be), and that’s being a fan of the pats. I can’t fault anybody who contributes in a positive way for anything about “how” they’re a fan- how long, how much they know, how much they follow the draft process and all that. Homefield may not be an advantage for the Patriots this season since 2 of the 4 losses were at home. Titans have played well on road games this year. In the last 7 games the Titans have scored 247 points, averaging 35 point per game. Patriots offense in the last 7 game span scored 133 averaging 19 PPG.

The key to beating the Titans is holding them under 21 points. They’ve lost all games where the offense was held to 21 or under.

Barring the Saints game where they scored 28, they almost beat the Saints if not for a fumble in Saints territory, the game was close at 31-28 7 minutes left in the game.

There’s one advantage I see, Tannehill has struggled in bad weather. If the Patriots can force a third down by limiting Henry, Tannehill’s success in moving the ball becomes the clincher.

Patriots should run the heck out of Michel and Burkehead. As long as the Patriots don’t beat themselves, I think they can beat the Titans by a score.

Stopping Henry will be priority number one. I don’t expect that Gilmore will lay another egg this season and the secondary should be better (how could they not if they have any pride left?) But will Brady and the offense step up? The question that never seems to go away.

HunterCenter

I expect us to limit Henry, and Gilmore to do ok limiting AJ Brown, but I think Tannehill and the Titans TEs shred us. The Pats offense will play a lot better than they did against the Fins (would be hard to play any worse), and the game will go down to the wire. Get your Tums ready.

I’m not expecting them to lose. I’m expecting a tough, physical game in nasty conditions, that could go either way. Pats have way more playoff experience than Titans, and Pats are at home. I expect that will give them the slightest of advantages.

Oh I hear ya, I’ve been saying the same all week. I’m just hoping that since that wasn’t the playoffs (even though they said they were treating it as such), and now it is the playoffs, that we will see more fire, energy, and execution. We’ll see. If the Pats come out flat again, it will be highly disappointing, to say the least. Now or never for this Pats team, obviously.

When all you have in sports is “hope”, that is a very shaky foundation to build anything that is long lasting. No expectations, no disappointments… that’s the only thing I can give this years team moving forward.

HunterCenter

well, I don’t see anything long lasting with this Pats team… it’s the end of the season. Game to game, short term, is all we have now. And as inconsistent as this Pats team has been all year, unfortunately all I have is hope that they can get it together and string a few more wins.

I’m sticking with the prediction that Bill and Brady have agreed to basically do the rest of his career w/NEP on a year-to-year basis. He’ll do another on year deal and that’ll be the norm from here to “the end”.

Opinion Slayer

I disagree. I think Brady will take his time and look at all his options carefully and won’t play unless it’s a multi year deal, either in NE or somewhere else but time will tell who’s right.

I still lean toward this being “the end”. I don’t see there being anything really left to play for except reaching 45 and I just don’t think it’s that important. One year deals will be tricky as money can’t be pushed out and the reality is, I think there will be pretty sizable difference between what Brady thinks he’s worth (if he’d return) and what New England would pay. Going to another team means starting over and finding a situation where he can win without having to carry a significant workload. At the end of the day, having to deal… Read more »

depends on the reporting structure. If the coach reports to the GM, then having the coach have a say in selecting his boss is asinine. After the Miami game I posted a comment basically saying 3 things:
– No SB this season
– TB will not be here in 2020
– Dynasty is over and Pats will not go to the SB in this decade

It was labeled as “melodramatic” and “the dumbest so far”.

I had a lot of fun reading in the last few days dozens of post going back and forth, about:
– how winning the SB this year would be a miracle
– TB status in 2020
– 20 years of unprecedented success (maybe) coming to an end.

By the way. Happy new year to everyone.

General question – does the coach make the player, or player make the coach?

Did Greg Roman and Eric Bienemy luck into stud QBs who make them look good, or did the OCs elevate Jackson and Mahomes?

Neil X

You’d have to be a seriously terrible OC if Mahomes didn’t succeed under you. Jackson could have been drafted by a team that insisted he become a pocket passer and been ruined by that.

So if you hire Roman, do you have to go out and sign Kaepernick?

No, he just saw what he had and adapted to it instead of trying to get the player to do something that he doesn’t do as well as other things. He didn’t insist Jackson try to be something he wasn’t, so kudos to him for that.
