Ah, relaxation.
With the regular season’s conclusion, it’s time to take a look at some interesting stats, fa- oh, you read this in the title. Well, you know what’s coming.
- Since entering the NFL in 2010, Rob Gronkowski has led the Patriots in receiving touchdowns in six of his nine seasons. 2018 was the first season where Gronk played in more than eight games (he played in 13) but did not lead the team in receiving scores.
- The three players to top New England in this category when Gronk did not? Julian Edelman (2013, with six), Martellus Bennett (2016, with seven), and James White (2018, with seven).
- Four players caught a touchdown pass as a Patriot in 2017 and did not in 2018. Three of those players are on other rosters (Brandin Cooks, Danny Amendola, Dion Lewis).
- The only current Patriot to fit that specification? Dwayne Allen.
- Two players scored exactly one touchdown for the 2018 Pats: Rex Burkhead and Devin McCourty.
- Two players scored exactly two touchdowns: Tom Brady and Kyle Van Noy.
- James Develin scored four touchdowns, all rushes of 1 or 2 yards. In the Brady-Belichick era, no fullback has ever scored that many touchdowns in a season. Marc Edwards in 2001 and Heath Evans in 2007 each scored three.
- However, in 2007, Patriots fullbacks scored a total of five touchdowns, as Kyle Eckel found the end zone twice.
- Before this season, Develin had one career touchdown, against Houston in 2013. (He also scored in the 2014-15 AFC Championship Game against the Colts.)
- Develin’s middle name is Rittenhouse. That’s awesome.
- During the 2018 season, the Patriots scored a touchdown on a fumble return, interception return, kickoff return, and blocked punt return – four of the seven ways to score a non-offensive touchdown. (They missed out on punt return, blocked field goal return, and missed field goal return.
- Their last season with at least four of these touchdowns was 2010, when they managed five (all except blocked punt and missed field goal).
- Until this year, the Patriots’ last score off a blocked punt had been in 1996 (Tedy Bruschi), interception return in 2013 (Tavon Wilson), and fumble return in 2015 (Jamie Collins).
- In their franchise history, the Patriots have only once returned a missed field goal for a touchdown – in 1962. (Ron Burton.)
- The Patriots’ longest rush of the season was 34 yards (a Sony Michel touchdown versus Indianapolis)… unless you count the preseason.
Enjoy today’s games. We’ll learn the Divisional Round opponent soon.
Aha! And you thought there wouldn’t be a TUMS-O-METER prediction with the Pats enjoying a bye week, but nooooooooooooo. There still will be angst and hand wringing as Patriot fans, notably one fellow called BSJ, watch this weekend’s Wild Card games to see who the Pats will face in the Divisional Round. Will it be Houston? [Nope.] Baltimore? LA? Each poses matchup pros and cons for the Patriots. Since the regular season finale was a relatively easy 38-3 win versus the Jets, we’ll just take the leftover TUMS from last week and apply them to this weekend and start with a fresh batch for next weekend’s Divisional game.
Ya’ll right, the Pats defense sucks. Pats are going to be one-and-done. They ain’t makin’ the Super Bowl. I believe now.

LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s go.
When will the “Colts 1-1” t-shirts be available for purchase?
DNOM around?
Briefly
I am leaving soon. Enjoy the game.
Have fun!
Enjoy dp!
Thoughts on yesterday games:
1 – Williams and Anderson showed why drafting 2 down RB in the 1st is a reach.
2 – Kelce had a few Gronkesque plays
3 – KC will be in the SB. If LA has to go against Brees at home NFC is still open.
Wasn’t Todd Gurley and #1 pick that had 1251 yards and 17 TD’s this year a #1 pick.?Todd Guley also had 115 yards and 1 TD in that game last night.
You think Anderson could have don what Gurley is doing over a long period of time consistently?
PEDs
Brady has a PR of 85 in a game and “He looks old, falling off a cliff”
Mahomes has a PR of 85 today “He was amazing!”
can you imagine if Tom has that type of game
All we hear is Tom needs to pick it up. he gets a grade of a F
Well of course Mahomes is better, he won his first playoff game. Brady has lost two SBs. It’s not even a comparison.
Goes without saying….
no doubt. Mahomes only needs 26 more wins to catch “Falling off a Cliff” Brady
27….after tomorrow.
thata boy
Quotes from who?
Well, we’re now under Winter warning up to 8 inches through tomorrow.
there’s a vulgar joke in there somewhere……
The Rams offense is not a good matchup for the Pats defense. That’s for sure.
We’ll we’re just between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Just imagining the Pats trying to stop their running attack gives me an ulcer.
Its ok we have Elandon Roberts to hit the wrong hole obligatory thats what she said.
lmao
Next game is our game 🙂

Los Angeles will host an NFC title game, #Rams coach Sean McVay has won a playoff game and the #Bengals will wait at least a week to hire their coach. I think all parties are ok with this.
He then deleted it.
Time for bed 🙂
Well the FCC just had a stroke.
Evan Lazar @ezlazar
The timeout thing might’ve made sense but delaying going for two does not. At all.
What the hell difference does it make when they go for 2?
I usually like his. Comments. But if they go for 2 and fail, it’s a 2possesion game.
He must have taken the points – going for 2 flips the winner vs spread
Rams covered 7.5 spread
Bye bye Cowboys
Yeah,,,they need to go back to the old rules for on sides kicks.
I agree
Ill give the boys credit for fighting back.
Hmmmmmmm
mmmmmmmmmmH
No. I don’t like it.
DAK PRESCOTT JUST SAVED THE COWBOYS SEASON!
for 2 minutes 😛
Jesus Troy. The TD wouldn’t count and LA would go for a FG try.
That was a 7:32 drive. Rams have a 34:02-18:42 time of possession edge. 250 yards rushing helps.
Rams OL is having their way today.
Plus a full 100% of their team is friends with Sean McVey so…that’s really what did it.
Game
OVA
Give it to Gurley
Or short fat guy
That was dumb
BOLD PREDICTION: The Pat’s will beat 2 LA teams to win the Super Bowl.
That’s definitely bold
Hi NorthShore
Hi Mac!
That’s beat 1 first
Who thought that Cooks was going to try and hurdle a guy on that play?
15 yard penalty.
And a loss of 2 bottles of TUMS for tomorrow.
Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!
15 yard penalty because you remind us a tough loss
The Pats could have used a back like Anderson. Too bad they only had two chances to claim him off waivers this year (and didn’t).
I was just thinking same
Rams already with 229 rushing yards
Great job by them working in Anderson
Hard to believe this game is even close.
If Elliott didn’t just run up the gut, he had a hole to get the first to his immediate left.
In other news…… Broons beat TOR in a big game.
OK now back to football and the continuation of nothing falling for the Pats in other AFC games….
Anyone else imagining an Eagles at Cowboys game to get to the SB?
That would be bananaland. But no chance the eagles get out of NO with a win.
They better not or I will have to nuke NO and Philly on Monday.
….aaaaaand the FBI is already outside your house.
Rams @ Saints
The headlines are leaning towards Sean Oy Vey.

The video, released yesterday, has great NFL footage. Sully Erna is a huge Pats fan.
Rico “Not Suave” Gathers
Peters is getting smoked like a cigarette. Rams are a “name” secondary.
FWIW: PFF had Peters ranked 95th out of 121 qualified CBs this season.
I would say that is pretty accurate.
AIkman is giving him the hands.
i have no idea why that ball was at the 2 yd line after the catch
Yeah Idk man
get under center
Love it when you talk dirty.
well we got to spice this place up a bit. get a little dry at times
Gotta turn this Tight End into a Wide Receiver 😉
thank you
😉
McVay the Great just cost his team a TO with that bad challenge.
On todays edition of: How to Waste a Timeout in the Second Half of a Playoff Game.
It’s Reidesque.
Rams are really a dangerous team because they are the most talented team of the ones still competing
hard hitting analysis if ive ever heard it
Smack is the Mike Singletary of sports analysis.
Dingo is the baby eater of this blog.
as long as I’m not Stephen A. Smith or Kellerman 🙂
So they’re a lock for the SB, right? Who is going to be the AFC team? Clearly not the Patriots.
No, they are not. Saints are favorites IMO, because they have Brees
Cookie

poor Carr never had a chance
He should have pulled a “John Elway/Eli Manning”
yeah but Carr is a stand up guy so he wouldn’t do that type of thing
Rams @ Saints would be a great NFC Championship game
Cowboys @ Saints would be better
no, time for the Cowboys to go home
Where was that ref that called Dak in the grasp, for SB42?
100 yd penalty for brining SB42 up
I hang my head in shame.
dak couldnt hit the broad side of my ass
but he can run 🙂
huh
