2017-18 Prop Bets Results

-by DNOMN8R314

From the opening kickoff, this was the least invested I have ever been in a Super Bowl. I don’t know why, but I wasn’t really concerned about what was happening on the field.

Obviously this was a disappointing end to the season – I took a peek in the comments and had to back out immediately – but it’s time to move on.

Instead of posting the whole thing (I had a massive headache during the game last night and it’s carried over to today), here is a LINK to the results.

Hugo won the contest with a score of 17 – congrats, buddy. dyims came second with 16, while Kerthwap tied with the Netflix fiend for third with 15.

Who is “the Netflix fiend”? Oh, right. That’s my sister. I’m sure some of you remember that story.* (My dad also took part. He was the only one to predict an Eagles win.)

I believe this makes us now officially On To 2018. The Blitz for Six re-starts now.

*That Story: A few years ago I was trying to stream a game on my laptop but couldn’t because my sister was using our weak WiFi to watch Netflix in the other room. Thus, on here she is now “the Netflix fiend.”

How does this CLE/LA trade affect the potential of the Celtics (LA) draft pick? Does it make them better or worse in the short term?Report

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2018/02/08/patriots-eagles-micd-up-super-bowl-lii-foles-pederson-no-fear-of-belichick-defense/

“–The footage showed an aspect of Brady’s dropped pass that might have been overlooked during the game. On the play that knocked Brandin Cooks out of the game, Brady absorbed a huge shot to the ribcage from a blitzing Nigel Bradham. While everyone was focused on Cooks, Brady grabbed at his ribs and then bent over in pain.

It was just three plays later when Brady was unable to snare a high pass above his head, thrown by Danny Amendola. Perhaps the rib pain contributed when he extended those arms above his head.”Report

Dfw, I should add that while the team never named a formal replacement for Pees in 2010 and then in 2011, yet Matty P. called most (if not all) of the plays on defense despite that. It was only until 2012 where he got the gig officially. I believe there’s no question that Flores will be the team’s new DC, but I remember something interesting that Bruschi once said: “In New England, it’s like having three head coaches” (referring to Weis and Romeo). So I’m guessing it’s a much harder title to earn compared to other franchises, hence no formal… Read more »

Good memory young grasshopper!

I vaguely remember the 2010 year and at the time, Patricia was getting airwaves for being a “rocket scientist.” I honestly did not remember whether he made calls from the sideline.Report

Both of the moves Ainge made this summer have been unbelievable.
The Nets are only the 7th worst team in the league right now. They’ll probably climb the standings in the 2nd half because other teams are selling/buying out vets.Report

So the Celtics got Kyrie for IT (who LeBron just booted for lesser scoring guard, except with a big long-term contract) , Crowder (who hasn’t fit in Cleveland at all) and a draft pick that isn’t even going to be that greatReport

Meanwhile, Tatum has been arguably the best rookie in the NBA, starting on a 39-16 team, and shooting .482/.438/.824 while playing quality defense. Fultz hasn’t played at all and was rough over the summer, Ball has been a mess.Report

@KevinOConnorNBA I’m hearing it’s Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, and the Cavs first to Lakers for Clarkson and Nance.
Clarkson has a sizeable contract which is why LAL wanted to move him. Nance is a useful player and the sweetener to get rid of him.Report

Honestly, I thought the Celts had to trade IT. They’d created a monster they couldn’t control anymore.
Parting with the BKN 1st was what scared me. Looks like it’s going to work out just fine – and Ainge picked up a better pick in his trade down.Report

Something to watch for: if McDaniels gets elevated to Assistant Head Coach. If that happens, Belichick maybe prepping him for the eventual handover.

At least the offense will be stable for now. I wonder if Belichick will elevate Flores to DC or decide to leave him as is and take a more active approach in the defense. Something similar to 2010 (I might have the years wrong, it was after Dean Pees left.)Report

I managed to get myself to rewatch the game. I wanted to write an observations article, but not sure if it is worth it. Elandon Roberts looked so lost, it’s unbelievable. He is not a 3-down player, and unless his ST contributions are really the only thing keeping him in, he should not be a roster lock next season.Report

This whole coach-being-interviewed during playoffs need revisiting. Unless a coach is an FA/out of a job, no team should be allowed to reach out to other coaches till the Superbowl is over. The problem is the calendar, a lot of teams cleaning houses need more time on the calendar to reorganize before the Combine and the draft. Maybe move the draft to May.Report

He’s a brilliant offensive mind. Brady trusts him like no other. Kraft thinks enough of him to not want to let him go. BB thinks enough of him to want to mentor him in the finer aspects of team building. I don’t know why their endorsements would leave you in doubt. Sure he could fail but he has enough smart people believing in him that I don’t know why anyone who’s been paying attention to the Pats for the last 17 years would doubt him!Report

Pats can roughly get $34m cutting the following players: Bennett (if he wants to play one more season, I see him coming back, his cap is ~$3,5m) Dwayne Allen (Good target for restructuring or trade. BB values his blocking though so this is a 50/50) Britt (If Dorsett is learning the system fast, with Mitchell returning, I don’t see a role for Britt. We haven’t played the Colts in a while so it essentially “died” for a couple years but it’s now rekindled (for at least 1 more season). I get us Patriots fan disparaging the rivalry because we dominated the Colts for a while, but in Ballard’s defense, I do understand that it’s not necessarily about head to head record – otherwise we couldn’t really call the Sox/Yanks a rivalry.Report

Also, I know he has to come out against the Pats like that. He has been taking heat for dealing with the Cheatriots and a lot of the natives were not happy that McDaniels was going to be the coach. Irsay must be fuming.

Can someone remind him what his dad did to Baltimore?Report

I read it the same way too. There was some thaw in the relationship between the organizations, the trades are proof of it. Also, Irsay calling Belichick his friend (though it is more probable than not he was high when he made the statement). I think Ballard was essentially saying that the thaw between the organizations is over.Report

Per NESN;

McDaniels, who was set to become the Indianapolis Colts’ head coach, went to Gillette Stadium to clean out his office Tuesday, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero first reported Wednesday morning via sources. That’s when McDaniels was convinced to ditch the Colts and stay with the Patriots during a meeting with Patriots owner Robert Kraft, president Jonathan Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick, according to Pelissero.

I wonder if McD’s agent was pushing him to take the Colts job- the agent also represents the GM in Indy.Report

Agents don’t get paid, unless there’s a deal. So they always push for the “sale.”Report

IMO, it’s deeper than that. The Colts had a veritable need at coach and it so happened that McDaniels was available. Having the same agent simplifies a whole bunch of things.

The Colts definitely waited too long because of the common agent, who was probably working behind scenes to keep the engagement. I can definitely empathize with his anger but I would love to see the Colts get embarrassed any chance I get.Report

I know the system is not set up well. These coaches get pushed into making decisions that they would prefer to make after the season/playoffs. Teams don’t want to wait that long. But I am a firm believer of a man’s word. I don’t have many things in life but people who know me here know that if I say I will do something, I will do it. I get that NFL is big business and so on but I still think it was handled poorlyReport

A verbal agreement isn’t worth the paper it ain’t printed on. No McD doesn’t look good but he knew the consequences and it sounds like he made the decision based on the right reasons so I have no problem with this. Plus I have to believe the news about Luck and the fact that Irsay’s been lying about it also are at play here–and rightly so. The people who have blood on their hands are the NFL for allowing such a cockamamie process/timeline for teams to hire people and the Krafts/BB. They couldn’t find a half hour to tell McD… Read more »

Not implying you are naive. Handshake deals have always been a very easy way to get screwed. Blame the NFL for forcing teams to rely on them.Report
