Pats vs. Titans: My Gillette Experience

-by NHBruh

Contrary to popular opinion, they don’t serve caviar at the Pats stadium. At least not in the nosebleed section that I was in.

And, for BSJ, they also don’t sell TUMS; so BYOT.

We got to Foxboro at around 4:00, and parked in one of the street side parking lots about half mile away from the stadium. It made it so much easier when leaving. We were in stop-and-go traffic only for about 10 minutes.

We did not tailgate. We went to a pizza place around the stadium, but it was standing room only at the bar. At 4:30 they had table reservations all the way to game time. But we were fairly well lubricated when we got to our seats.

It was cold. Despite the multiple layers that we had on, we got cold before the game even started. But the sense of excitement all around compensated for it.

The interesting thing that I noticed is that while fans and we were loud, and really loud at times, it did not seem like the noise carried through. We were seated on the other side of the lighthouse (toward the “closed” side) and it still didn’t help with the acoustics. I am guessing it is worse from the open side.

I had always wanted to see Brady once in a game. That it happened in a playoff game in which he was so dominant, was fantastic. Overall, it was a great experience for me.

I don’t know a lot about whisky, but I’m learning. So far, my favorites are the ones that have a sweet aftertaste, not the lighter fluid kind. Scotch has fit that bill so far, and this particular Woodford Reserve did, too. On edit: So wheated would be smooth and a sweet aftertaste?Report

zoocore

Yeah, you’d like a wheated bourbon then. They’re sipping bourbons and a little more on the “sweet” finish side. Any of the Wellers. The Special Reserve is the easiest to get and probably the sweetest/cheapest. Weller 12 is a very good wheated bourbon but it’s next to impossible to find anymore. Weller Antique 107 is one of my favorites, but it too is hard to find, now. William Larue Weller is part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection and is pretty much impossible to buy, unless you have a close friend at a liquor store that gets the allocation, or… Read more »

After reading comments from Jaguars fans on various articles about the upcoming game, I’ve come away convinced that it’s Jacksonville’s year, they’re unbeatable, it’s destiny, Brady is a wimp and has no chance against their D, and Gronk will be useless on Sunday. Not much about Bortles except that 4-0 stat against SB winning QBs. Welp….The Pats might as well stay home on Sunday, I guess.Report

Who do you like in the NFC game? I am really not sure I have a preference for which team to play or know which team will win. I’m weary of Minny being the home team but I also think it would be a fun match-up. Also, I remember a question directed at BB a couple years ago about long-tenured coaches in the NFL and even though he wasn’t mentioned in the question, Bill brought up Mike Zimmer. Seems to really respect Zimmer as a coach. I think it would be a compelling SB. Besides, we’ve already played the Iggles… Read more »
